what is naturalization?

Naturalization is the process by which someone who was not born in the United States can voluntarily become a U.S. citizen.

who can apply?

You might qualify if you:

  • Have been a permanent resident (green card holder) for a certain number of years.
  • Meet certain age, residence, and physical presence requirements.
  • Have good moral character.
  • Can pass English and U.S. government tests (with some exceptions).

Benefits of becoming a U.S. Citizen

  • Vote in federal elections.
  • Travel with a U.S. passport.
  • Apply for certain government jobs.
  • Sponsor more family members to come to the U.S.
  • And more!

how does it work?

  1. Submit an application to the U.S. government.
  2. Attend an interview and take the U.S. government and English tests.
  3. If approved, attend a swearing-in ceremony and become a U.S. citizen!

remember

Naturalization has specific requirements, and not everyone will qualify.  It is essential to get legal advice before proceeding. If you think you might be eligible, reach out for a consultation.
